As the whole world is thinking more deeply about physical and financial resources, it's not surprising to see the 9 of Pentacles show up for this Mindful May tarot challenge. In the 9, we find the story of the successful entrepreneur; a savvy, self-sufficient woman who is freely enjoying the fruits of her labour.
Earlier today while cleaning my home, I was listening to a productivity podcast that talked about the numerous benefits of 'delayed gratification', and how our minds are constantly being hijacked by the many sources of instant gratification that surround us on a daily basis. And when I think about the 9 of Pentacles, I often associate it with the implementation of habits that are focused on long-term success—as the woman in this card has secured her enviable position not by taking shortcuts, but through slow and steady progress.
I think it's also important to point out that the 9 in tarot connects to the meditative Hermit, so this card's message is inherently mindful. The Hermit asks us to step away from the noise and look within, and the 9 of Pentacles shows us the rewards that come from adopting a mature perspective that’s independent of mass society. So while it might feel good to do the expected and distract ourselves with chocolate and Netflix during this time, we're also being given a golden opportunity to examine our thoughts and habits and maybe embrace the less appealing tasks that can lead us to the achieving the goals we truly desire for ourselves.
Ive always been a fan of the strong feminist image in this card—and that garden looks pretty gorgeous, so I’m willing to do the work to get there. What about you? Has the mindful wisdom of the 9 of Pentacles inspired you as of late?
